Refunds and Cancellation

Last updated October 21, 2026

You only pay for work that was actually done and for things that actually reached you. Everything else comes back to your card.

Cancelling a task

You can cancel from the task's menu in the app at any point until the work is finished. What happens to your money depends on how far the work got:

When you cancelWhat you pay
Before anyone has startedNothing. Anything charged is refunded and every hold on your card is released.
Someone has accepted a step but not started itNothing for that step. If we pay them for their trouble, that is on us.
A step has been started or finishedThat step, at exactly what it pays the person who did it, with nothing added. Steps not yet started are refunded.
Something was bought for you, and it has reached youThe purchase, and the steps that brought it to you.
Something was bought for you, and it has not reached youNothing for the purchase. It is refunded, and we cover what was spent on it.
A ride or booking the provider will not releaseWhat the provider keeps (for example, its cancellation fee). We hold that amount until the provider confirms it, then refund the rest.

A step is "started" once the person doing it reports progress on it or sends a photo or receipt from it. Being assigned is not starting.

Once the work is finished and being reviewed, you cannot cancel. If something is wrong, tell us in the wrap-up (below).

When the work is done

At the end of each task we ask one question, and you have 24 hours from when we notify you to answer:

If you do not answer within 24 hours of our notice, the task settles as done.

Refunds you get without asking

When nobody can take a step

If we cannot find someone for a step in time, we ask you whether to keep waiting or cancel. We never cancel for you because of a delay. If you cancel, the table above applies.

How refunds reach you

Refunds go back to the card that was charged. A released hold usually disappears from your statement within a few days. A refund of an amount already taken usually shows up within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank.

If something looks wrong on your statement, please write to us before disputing the charge with your bank. We can usually fix it faster: support@booksidequest.com.
